Memorial Day Weekend, the unofficial start of summer .. A time when family’s take to the great outdoors to enjoy the sun and in some cases the crowds. But Covid-19 has changed that this year. After months of quarantine, NYS has allowed the Southern Tier to begin reopening. And just in time for Memorial Day, County parks are open this weekend, but with limitations.
Broome Security will be limiting the capacity at the parks by 50 percent of the parking spaces at each park, as advised by the state. That means only about 200 vehicles will be allowed to drive in Otsiningo park.
Limits for Dorchester, Cole and Greenwood range from 250 – 300.
Visitors are also asked to maintain physical distancing and wear a mask whenever you can’t.
Therefore, no swimming areas, beaches, boathouses or concession stands will be open at the county parks for the holiday.
Meanwhile Chenango Valley State Park is among those locations in New York where the state is opening beaches with restrictions for the Memorial Day weekend.
Visitors can use the swimming facility at the State Park in the Town of Fenton but they will have to wear masks when not swimming, keep beach towels and chairs 10 feet apartment, contact sports like volleyball will not be allowed and there will be no concessions.
