For The Weekend Of May 17th-20th

The Top 5 movies this weekend:

1. IF – $35 million
2. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes – $26 million
3. The Strangers: Chapter 1 – $12 million
4. The Fall Guy – $8.5 million
5. Challengers – $2.9 million 

The comedy fantasy IF, directed by John Krasinski and starring Ryan Reynolds, opened in first at the weekend box office with $35 million. Reviews have been mixed. The Rotten Tomatoes Critics Consensus says, “A sweet ode to rediscovering one’s inner child, IF largely works as old-fashioned family entertainment despite an occasionally unfocused and unnecessarily complicated plot.”

Last week’s top movie, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, drops to second with $26 million. The sequel has made $101.2 million.

The Strangers: Chapter 1 debuted in third with a better-than-expected $12 million.

The Fall Guy dropped from second to fourth with $8.5 million, and Challengers was fifth with $2.9 million.
