Mandatory evacuation in place following I-88 tractor-trailer crash
After a tractor-trailer crash on I-88 early Monday morning, the Broome County Office of Emergency Services has issused a mandatory evacuation for all residents within a one-quarter mile radius of Exit 2.
All Chenango Valley Schools and Chenango Forks Schools are closed today
Interstate 88, between exits 1 and 3 is currently closed to all traffic, for east and westbound lanes. Route 12A, near I88, and service roads are closed as well.
A press release from the Office of Emergency Services says the tractor-trailer was carrying compressed natural gas.
This impacts the following areas:
Residents on Ivan Lane, Dale Court, Niles Road and East Niles Road should go to the Hillcrest Fire Station on Avenue A in Hillcrest.
Residents on Towpath Road should evacuate to the Port Crane Fire Station on Route 369 in Port Crane across from CV State Park in Port Crane.
Residents in these areas are required to evacuate as soon as possible.
It is expected that cleanup will take six to eight hours.
